Ever feel like you’re stuck in a rut? A blank canvas can be really intimidating. Inspiration sites are fun and useful in aiding in your creative process. Even with all the information have about your website, it’s still good to have a direction to go with. Don’t wait for inspiration to strike, seek it out.
Here are some of the best website design inspiration resources that I use on a fairly regular basis:
1. Web Design
Made by web designers, for web designers. You’re creating a website, it’s natural to want to start here. When you look at the works of others, try to understand why they design things a certain way. Determine if something is designed for aesthetics or for function, and see how they put them together.
These websites are flooded with beautiful imagery. You would be amazed to see the sheer number of talented individuals out there. Just a word of caution: be careful not to accidentally “steal” someone else’s work. Look at their art and figure out why you like their colors, layout, or typography and learn from it.
Web Design isn’t just about the pretty pictures. Function always comes first in design, and in this case User Experience is key. If your website looks gorgeous but doesn’t serve its purpose, the end user is going to feel confused and lost. Being knowledgeable and understanding the importance of the User Experience will help whoever is using your website to find their way around. Good user experience is an easy and seamless experience.
Sometimes you’re just trying to figure out a solution to how to create a certain type of graphic. I can safely say that the internet makes up majority of my learning experience when it comes to web design.
Some of these websites contain multiples of these categories, or even stuff that’s not related to web design at all but it’s still fun to see what everyone else is doing.
Great websites are all around you. In fact, you’re probably using them everyday. Popular websites such as Facebook, Amazon, or maybe even your favorite shopping website like Nasty Gal, all have amazing design. Websites like these change every day, find out the little things that make them the best of the best.
What I also do is check out previous websites that we have made here at Ready Artwork. I go to our portfolio to see what worked well, and maybe even look back and figure out new solutions that we can implement for our new website. At Ready Artwork, we’re constantly on the lookout for new and improved ways to make websites look awesome yet function with the highest efficiency.
