READY ARTWORK X
LA SANITATION EDIBLE FOOD RESCUE PROGRAM
Public Sector
An ongoing system of inspection, outreach, and reporting materials helping LA Sanitation and Environment bring edible food generators across Los Angeles into compliance with California’s SB 1383.
THE ASK
SB 1383 requires edible food generators, grocery stores, restaurants, hotels, hospitals, and large venues among them, to donate surplus edible food instead of sending it to landfill. LASAN needed a way to explain that obligation clearly across a wide range of business types, train field inspectors to apply it consistently, and give food recovery organizations a reliable way to log donations in the CARE’T platform.
WHAT WE DELIVERED
A PROGRAM PEOPLE CAN FOLLOW
Inspection and Outreach Handbook
The centerpiece of the program. Ready Artwork produced the full Solid Resources Citywide Recycling Division program manual, covering inspection procedure, EFG and FRO/FRS tier requirements, communication protocols, and step-by-step navigation of the CARE’T donation tracking platform, giving inspectors one consistent reference in the field.
Bilingual Trifold Brochure
A public-facing trifold, produced in both English and Spanish, breaking down who qualifies as a Tier 1 or Tier 2 edible food generator, what EFGs and FROs/FRSs are required to track, and what to expect during a City inspection. Went through several rounds of coordinated updates with the City and CalRecycle to keep language current across both language versions before printing.
Presentation Folder
A branded leave-behind for field visits and outreach events, built to hold the trifold, flyer, and program contact information, with a QR code linking directly to the program’s digital resources.
Certificate of Recognition
Awarded to organizations that pass inspection, reframing compliance as a recognized community contribution rather than a regulatory checkbox, and giving field staff a positive note to end each successful visit on.
Bilingual Program Flyers
Condensed reference sheets and trackers covering the same core requirements as the trifold, sized for quick handoff during a site visit. Kept in sync through several rounds of CalRecycle and City-requested language updates alongside the rest of the collateral.
PUBLIC SECTOR MATERIALS THAT HOLD UP IN THE FIELD.
Ready Artwork was brought in as the design and educational outreach partner responsible for turning the ordinance into materials that inspectors, generators, and recovery organizations could actually use in the field, in both English and Spanish, and for keeping that material current as City and CalRecycle guidance evolved.
